I think all you can do is apply like everyone else. You have a compelling story, but so do many others who will apply. Go to the Yale website and make sure you comply with all the guidelines for admission especially the deadlines! Apply for scholarships and all proper travel visas as well. Just make sure you cover all your bases so there's no reason to turn you down. Get the e-mail for the admissions counselor and tell them you would appreciate their help in this process so that you don't leave anything out. Make sure they know that Yale is your first choice as well and that you would absolutely go there if admitted.

good luck!

I would guess that if you qualify academically you would have as good of a chance as anyone. Yale only accepts 10% of its applicants so the chances are 9 to 1 against anyone who applies. Since Yale has accepted a former Taliban officer into their ranks, your Burundi heritage would not detract from your chances, but may in fact improve them.

YES! Apply to as many ivy league schools as possible. Get your Masters. Help make this world a better place so horrific genocides cease to further exist.

Good luck :)

Don't see why not, think you could even get Our dear old Gorge Bush to recommend you for the Scull & Bone society as well
