I have noticed an akward smell coming fomr my furnace. The heat company person came to my house and said everything was fine and he believes it smells like burning metal, but he is not sure what metal would be burning. We turned the thermostat on after he cleaned eveything out. Now he states he will report to my landlord that it is fine and he told me to run the heat for a few days while i leave my house and hopefully it will be gone. It makes me dizzy, but he states it shouldn't What do you think it could be?

It's completely normal. If you don't use a furnace for a while (over summer, for example), the heating element can get a buildup of aerosol sprays, cooking vapors and smoke, dust, etc. So, when you turn it on the first time in fall or winter, that residue has to burn off.

Just keep your house well ventilated and run the furnace for a couple of hours. The smell will go away after the residue burns off.

All of them furnaces have a smell when they are fired up for the first time. If you have a cracked heat exchanger then that would need to be looked into. If you are not sure then give the gas company a call and let them check it out for harmful gases and such. Be sure and tell them it was recently worked on and certiified ok by a licensed HVAC repairman. Show them the work order. They have a way of seeing if carbon monoxide gas is coming into the house.

If it makes you dizzy it could be producing carbon monoxide, which can kill you. If I were you I'd sleep with the windows wide open tonight, or sleep somewhere else, and get some health & safety inspector in as soon as possible. I had the same problem a while back with a gas stove, and was told that I was very lucky to have survived.

you may desire to get somebody to return in and view it. it would desire to be burning some thing it is not meant to. the greater severe smell which you ought to have emanating out of your furnace is probably burning airborne dirt and mud. i ask your self whether you have a ineffective mouse or another animal that crawled under it and is "cooking." Is it a gas furnace? perhaps you ought to call the gas corporation and function them come out.
