I am going in for an op to remove an ovarian cyst. I may also be having a hysterectomy at the same time if the Dr feels it will be neccesary. I have heard from various people that they have had a new lease of life and/or have gone straight into the menopause. I do not know what to expect so any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

Immediate recovery post-op depends on how stable you are and how the surgery has gone. Expect at less 60 mins in the recovery room post-op. Recovery from the procedure again depends on the procedure done. The bigger the procedure the longer the recovery period also any possible complications that may occur. Hysterectomy takes approx 6 months recovery. As for the menopause HRT can help ease you into the menopause. Sit down with your consultant and ask all your questions. It may be an idea to write them out before you go to see the consultant. Best of luck.

I had a hysterectomy about 6 years ago. As long as they don't take your ovaries out then you shouldn't go into menopause. I haven't yet. I had a few complications due to other things that happened during surgery, but was out of the hospital within the week and was up and feeling great after 2 weeks.

You can resume normal activities within a day, but you should avoid strenuous activity or exercise for about a week.

You may stay in the hospital from 2 to 4 days and return to your usual activities in 4 to 6 weeks.
