Easy. It's because of Billy Clinton's NAFTA he got passed ten years ago. The imbalance of imports into the USA is way more than exports FROM the USA. Thus, our dollar is dropping in value. For the first time in decades, the Canadian dollar is worth more on the world market.
President Bush has continued it. China is now the world's leading importer of manufactured goods to the USA.

the us dollar is going down because of a fall in demand for it or a gain in demand for other currencies. there could be many reasons for either of these. the interest rates in the uk are steadily going up so people will demand the pound to invest in uk banks. this could be part of the cause.
