I have a regular plant that i bought from wal mart i cant think of the name right now but its just leaves and its one of those plants that grow really long and kinda bushy it can grow up the wall. but anyways i have it in my betta fish tank and the roots are WAY to long, would it be safe to cut them?

You should be able to cut them with no problem; just don't cut more than about 20% at a time.

You can cut the roots of some plants back,up to 1/3 .But I'm no expert,and I would have to see the plant to be able to tell you for sure. Is it a Pothos maybe?

If it's in your Betta bowl then it is most likely a Peace Lily. If it is then, yes, you can trim the roots. I kept two Betta bowls with peace lilies for years and I trimmed the roots frequently.

Edit: It is okay to trim Pothos Ivy roots as well. You won't hurt them.

It is not a good idea to trim plant roots unless you know what you are doing.

No. You never disturb the root system.
