I'm planning to get the new iMac. And it's most likely it's going to be in my room. But I've heard that big electronics like tv's and computers emits a lot of radiation. So I'm just wondering if it is ok to unplug the computer after use, and plug it in when i need to use it? So, does that damage the computer?

In your answer, tell me if you're sure or if you're just guessing, because I don't want to damage my computer.
thanks.

Actually, any device that is plugged in, even when turned off, will emit a very weak 50 or 60 hertz (depending on the country you live in) electric field.

As a simpler example, just plugging in an empty extension cord to an outlet will energize the conductors in the cord with 120 or 240 volts AC (again depending on your country).

So in the general sense of the word "radiation", yes, your friend is technically correct, although there's a big difference between ionizing radiation, such as gamma and X-rays and the little old weak electric field coming from your electric wires.

Considering that the kind of shoes you were cause your body to generate electric fields when you walk on an insulating floor or carpet, many times creating voltages in the tens of thousands of volts, the fields you're exposed to from your plugged-in computer or the wires in your house, are harmless.

So have fun, don't worry, be happy -- you'll live a lot longer via the reduced stress!

It can but it's rare...oh and the radiation thing...its for moniters (the screens). The CR-T's (big bulky ones) emit a lot of Radiation and can damage eyes and LCD Screens (the slim screens) emit very little if any radiation. So if u do get a computer make sure it has an LCD screen or DLP (if you want a HUGE screen)...so if u get the slim moniter (screen) radiation is not an issue

If theres a rocker switch on PSU use it. Unplug it if youre going on vacation or during a thunderstorm. As far as radiation goes all it emits is EMF (ElectroMagneticField) and it doesn't emit a "lot" so you won't be turning green if you leave it plugged in.

It's fine, it's also better to leave it unplugged. If their is ever a power surge or brown out, your computer will be unaffected. (as long as it is Shut Down mode, you can move it.)

your computer does not emit radiation.....

Who told you they emit a lot of radiation? The aliens that abducted you?

Don't worry about it.

no damage will occur, it might cause more damage if you leave it plugged in. Power surges and lighting will fry your computer. I have seen it happened may times.
