I don't see *any* valid reason for starting a war. Defense is justified, obviously, but if no-one instigated warfare, this would be unnecessary.
Religion is not a valid reason-- God doesn't assign hit-men.
Greed for power, land, oil etc. are simply selfish (and usuallly disguised as something more "honorable").
