Well, it begins this way. I am currently failing chemistry, even though I try, and go tutoring after school. I also just failed my driver's license test, and whenever somebody asks me to do something for them (like running an errand or getting something for them), I get nervous and mess things up. Sometimes, it seems that I can't even do basic, simple tasks. My mom constantly asks me to help her with something, and often I don't understand and mess things up. As a result, she calls me "stupid" or "idiot". Am I stupid or have something wrong with my brain?

Do you notice anything different in your thinking than you had in the past, or has this been a continual thing? Your mother's negative comments sure do not help your self perceptions, nor should you allow these messages to effect how you perceive yourself. Have you ever been IQ or tested in school on the California Achievement Tests (CAT)? Perhaps it is anxiety or situational stress. I hope this helps, talk to your school counselor!

There is nothing wrong with your brain.

So your failing Chemistry, so do loads of people. Loads of people simply do not take to science, it does not mean there is something wrong with them.

Similarly your driving test, Lots of people fail first time round and most instructors/testers say that people who don't pass first time go on to be the better drivers.

As for messing up simple tasks and your mom calling you stupid, this really is not fair on her part.

It seems to me that you may be trying too hard and end up living a self fulfilling prophecy:- You are told so often that you are stupid and will fail that you believe before you've even started that you will do something wrong and with such negative thoughts you will be more likely to mess up than if you just thought "right I'll show you!"

I think you should talk to your mom about this and tell her how she is making you feel. If you can't do this is there anyone else you can talk to about it because all you need is someone or something to boost your confidence.

You will find with a bit of self esteem and belief in yourself most of what you are worrying about messing up will become easier and eventually you will do them without even thinking about it.

Take care.

Chances are you don't have anything wrong with you, but you may be psyching yourself out.
If you have a mindset that you will fail, and everything you do is wrong, then most likely your actions will behave in a manner that proves this.

Some people aren't good at chemistry, a lot of people aren't. Lots of people fail their drivers test on the first go, only to pass with flying colors the next time around. In order to get by and achieve these basic tasks you need to breathe, relax and approach it like it's not a big deal. Everyone makes mistakes and instead of focusing on the screw ups we make in life, we should focus on our accomplishments. Try to boast yourself up and reassure yourself that everyones not great at everything, but everyones great at something.

If worst comes to worst, It sounds a bit like your on your way to having an Anxiety Disorder, but many of those can be treated easily, just with the simple fact of gaining confidence in your abilities/

Maybe by your mom calling you stupid and idiot, you believe these things. DON'T! You seem intelligent enough to me. The wording of your question is better than some I have seen on here. Just study more and concentrate. Clear your mind from anything except the task at hand. And tell your mom that she is doing wrong calling you names.
God Bless

Yes, its called abuse! gather up your self-esteem or whats left of it and move! This means to learn self-assertiveness! There appears to be a factor in accepting responsibility, you are missing out on some very good areas in your life. You do not owe anybody an explanation for the quick change, just be honest and say I have a life too, and now you see it get one yourself you might enjoy it!
