I was recently told that I have a blown head gasket. I have to keep putting anifreeze and water in the car almost every other day to keep it from running hot. As long as I do this then the car runs smoothly and my engine light stays off. I have been doing this for about 1 week now....I'm wondering how long can my car run until I can get it fixed and approximately how much would it cost to fix it? Thanks!!

The best thing is to have it fixed now. Don't let it get any worse. The longer that you put it off, the more damage that you can do.

The cost will be closer to 1000 dollars give or take a couple of hundred.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it is, what it is. Sugar coating it won't help.

Sorry ------- but you really need to get it fixed soon.

You must replace the head gasket asap.Else you may face more severe problems with the engine.

Cost will depend on the car and the model- anywhere between $ 400 to $ 1200.

go to a auto parts store and look through the section where you would find fuel injector cleaners and transmission cleaners.

along that giant wall of fluids you should find a bottle of head gasket sealer. the one i have used in the past contained porcelain and fiber (about $10). if the crack on the head gasket isnt too bad then that will do the job. but be careful not to pour too much of it in or you can damage some engine components....

if that doesnt work then cross your fingers, take it to a garage, and hope that you dont have warped engine heads.

Good luck!

Your answer depend on what type of engine you have. Case steel and alumin both will warp soon. I would fix it asap. The cost will depend on many factors. Do head bolts have to be replaced? Does the head need to be shaved?, Etc. $500.00 to over a $1000.00
