I'm looking for a guitar package for around $300, any suggestions? I plan on playing a lot of different styles of rock, esp metal.

These are two I was looking at:

Between the two, I'd get the Epiphone SG package. The SG will have a better resale value, and is widely recognized as a classic guitar design. However, it doesn't have a vibratto (Whammy bar) which is sometimes essential in metal & rock. You'll have to decide based on your style.

For your $300, you can get a bitchin' used, vintage hollow-body guitar which sounds great for distortion, and will hold its value better than any new $300 guitar. Just search eBay or craigslist for "hollow guitar." For example:

For metal, the ibanez because it has active pickups. the double humbuckers on the epiphone tend to have more of a straight rock sound. but after all, it is a personal choice and the best thing to do is go to the local shop and try some out and see if you can find a good used guitar, because it could go up in value.

Do NOT buy a guitar off ebay. You don't know what you're getting and you have no comeback. Go to your local music shop, preferably with a knowledgeable friend, and see what's on offer. Try out a few, and see which one you like best. See what deals they'll give. Hope this helps.
