Well this team they have this year is new...so since they are only 7 games tested they cannot be named the "best team ever". But odds are good that they will represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, and since NO NFC team can compete with them they would win.

A Championship would go a LONG way to prove they are the best. An undefeated season would go a LONG way to prove they are the best. Being a repeat Champion ('o8-'o9, 'o9-'10) would solidify that they are a great team.

Anyone that would leave this team voluntarily would be an idiot, but now Brady has the Manning monkey on his back (0-3) in there last meetings, Nov. 4 is the first hurdle to becoming the "best team ever".

Lets not forget that in 2005 Indy was being labeled as the best team ever and was destined to go undefeated after Manning got the monkey off his back and beat Brady and the Patriots for the first time ever. Then came game number 14 and they lost by 2 scores to a weak Chargers team and just like that were shot back to reality. Moral of the story is... don't get your hopes up just yet.

my question is : ARE YOU HIGH?

Do you think they are better than THE STEEL CURTAIN?

They are to considered a Dynasty IF they win this years Super Bowl, but no way can you even consider trying to group them in with the dynasties of the past.

But for fun : lets do a little head to head against some well known ALL TIME TEAMS

The Colts from the lates 50's : this would be a shoot out. Moore couldnt be covered and Samuel would struggle with Barry,. Mackey would run all over the middle. It would come down to Brady trying to keep up with Unitas. The Colts D line - with their 3 Hall Of Famers make the difference.
COLTS 45 PATRIOTS 34

the Packers of the 60's : Lombardi would run Taylor mixed in with Hornung and Anderson all day trying to rely on his D and rule the clock in hopes of tiring the Patriot D by the 4th quarter. That Packer D os the key!
PACKERS 20 PATRIOTS 19

the Dolphins of the 70's : Griese, Warfield, Morris, Czonka, and the "No Name Defense". You may think the key was stopping Czonka, Morris and Kiick, but Don Shula was the coach. He and Griese would've gotten the ball to Twilley if Warfield was doubled, which was hard to do with his speed.
DOLPHINS 24 PATRIOTS 10

the Steelers of the 70's: Two thousand yard RB's, 2 thousand yard WR's and a strong armed QB = ALL but Blier are in Canton! Behind a superior O line that has 2 more Hall of Famers! IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH: The D starts 6 more Hall of Famers with 3 more borderline Hall of Famers who would destroy you in every facet of the game!
STEELERS 38 PATRIOTS 13

the 49ers of the 80'S/90's had fluctuating defense, so many consider them the weakest of the dynasties. I imagine it high scoring, but the Patriots old LB's make a difference.
PATRIOTS 49 49ers 38

the Redskins of the 80's/ 90's had a different QB for each trophy, but they ALWAYS had a superior ground game behind the Hogs. Riggens or Rogers or Riggs or Byner All would've worn down the Patriots just like every opponent they faced during their era.
REDSKINS 27 PATRIOTS 17

the Cowboys of the 90's were deep in most important positions, which brought them more victories than even the Triplets. They relied on controlling the line of scrimmage, as that was the key to beating them.
COWBOYS 31 PATRIOTS 28

HOW WOULD THE PATRIOTS DO AGAINST A FEW " NEAR DYNASTIES " ?

the 49ers of the 50's had THREE Hall of Fame RB's to go with a Hall of Fame QB and Hall of Fame WR. NO ONE could stop the Tittle lob to RC " ALLEY OOP" Owens!
49ers 45 PATRIOTS 42

the Broncos of the '80's / 90's relied of Elways guts, but finally won a trophy on Davis' legs. This would be a very good AFC matchup.
PATRIOTS 45 BRONCOS 35

the Bills of the 90's had an explosive, diverse offense and a shut down D. This would not be as close as the score may indicate.
BILLS 35 PATRIOTS 24

the Vikings of the 70's had Scrambling Fran Tarkenton setting every passing record on his way to Canton, Big, Fast Chuck Foreman and a great O line to compliment The Purple People Eaters. Best team ever not to win a trophy.
VIKINGS 24 PATRIOTS 9

SO, THERE YOU GO. THE PATRIOTS GO 2 - 9 AGAINST JUST A FEW OF THE GREATEST TEAMS EVER.
THAT WOULD PLACE THEM NEAR THE BOTTOM.
IF THEY WIN MORE SUPER BOWLS DURING BRADYS CAREER, THEN THINGS CHANGE. OBVIOUSLY.

Until they win a Super Bowl they can't be a best team ever. They might be the best team through 7 games, like the Bears were last year. But tagging them the best team ever right now is not something that can be done.
In 2002 the Miami Hurricanes were tagged the best college team ever, but lost the National Championship game, same as the 2005 USC Trojans.
You have to be careful if you call them the best team ever, so right now no they aren't. The 85 Chicago Bears are still the best team ever.

This is tough. I think that they have been the best team in the NFL recently, but looking back at the teams of the past, its tough to decide. The Steelers of the '70s, Bears of the '80s, and the 1959 Baltimore Colts were all good (other good teams: Cowboys, San Francisco). I think that the Patriots could be up there if they continue to dominate.

No -- maybe in the last 10 years.
My guess is that you were not around for the Steelers in the late 70's - and the Dolphins of '72 and the '85 Bears

NO, 1989 and 1994 niners are the best team ever....Then you have the 90s cowboys, the 96 packers.......the 98-99 broncos.........I just have a hard time putting the Pats above all those teams...

this year's patriots are real good but they need to win the super bowl before we can have that conversation. if they do then we can debate whether they are better than montana's 49ers or the 85 bears or 70's steelers teams. they are on the right path though.

If they win a couple more Super Bowls, then yes...I think the standard has to be Bill Walsh's 49ers and Chuck Noll's Steelers with 4 Super Bowls...(Not counting all the Green Bay championships before the Super Bowl era)...
