I just got fired today. the manager said i threw paper at him, which was not at all true. The company never even asked if i did it or not. i was going to try and give me side but when i went into the office i already saw my check on the table so i felt it would be pointless. when i put the paper on his desk he even asked me if i wanted a copy. thats not something you would say to someone who just threw something at you. also i was fired about 2 or more after this alleged incident took place. the manager never even said anything to me about it until he said i was fired. this was at-will employment but what options do i have? i know if i said he touched my penis in the restroom they wouldn't just fire him, they would atleast ask him about the acquisation. any ideas would be apprcated.

i understand "at will employment" but shouldn't there have do be some sort of proof. technically they could say i was drinking on the job or hopping from desk to desk or stealing, but wouldnt they need some sort of proof instead of just accusing someone with it. isn't that slander?

If you're an "at will" employee, you can be terminated for any reason, or no reason at all , anytime. To be straightforeward, you're done there. Move on and find another job.

There is more to this than just a paper being thrown or not thrown you obviously did not have a good relationship with your boss even before this. "At will" means exactly that unless you are being let go because of race, sex, religion or age then you do not have a basis to sue.

Based on the way you have written your question you are obviously still very angry about this and that is normal but you have to get past it. No one wants to hire a bitter person so don't bring this baggage to an interview. Try to look at it as an opportunity to find a job with a manager that you can respect and enjoy working with.

To answer your question, at-will employment means that they don't have to give you a reason, or can use any non-discriminatory reason to get rid of you.

Technically they can say, "You know what John, you have blue eyes, we have decided we only want to keep brown and green-eyed people employed here, so we are letting you go."

....like I said, anything that isn't a protected class, they can terminate you for.
