What we do is have gift exchange with our own immediate family (husband, wife, children) and then we have a party with all the aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. At the party, everyone brings a "white elephant" gift- usually something funny or honestly, just some junk laying around the house. We then wrap them & put numbers on them. We draw for presents and everyone gets a laugh at the things we open- this year I was the proud owner of some plastic drop cloth and a frilly toliet seat cover. It's a lot of fun, and there is no pressure to get something really nice or even spend a lot of money

Everyone draws names..kids draw kids...adults for adults...Set a $ Limit $5 to $10.00, but the limit is the limit for everybody! This is very impotant.....evrybody that draws a name must put $1.00 in the pot, jar, piggybank, or hat next year before the exchange...Also included with the wrapped gift, must be either the store receipt, or handwritten receipt with name and address of place purchased, and what the purchase was, with the clerk or salespersons signature and address......( They will oblige you when you explain the situation)Everyone must agree that no one will cheat on this rule! Now.....everyone will have a year to shop for their "Special Gift" The rule being that all Gifts must be purchased at a Thrift shop,Rummage, Garage, Yard or Estate Sale! All the gifts are to be lined up on a table with their prices and receipts and the name of the giver on each item and a number which has been added. Now give everyone a blank sheet of paper and a pencil, and let them go thru the line 3 times....then they write the number of the gift that they think was the best bargain! The person who got the best Bargain, after all the votes are tallied, receives the $$ in the hat! Our family gets together the week after New Years with lots of invited friends who come every year as well! The meal is a huge Pot of Beef and Vegetable Stew and Rolls and Butter (Home-made of Course) and evryone brings cookies, or some other dessert, which can be anything....The pot gets pretty big sometimes....but everyone has a blast, and lots of fun....we didn't start a scrapbook, of the best bargains, but I wish we would have! This has gone on for about 10 years now...we are too far away to attend every year now....but it was lots of fun!

Dirty Santa- Each person buys a gift in a pre-set price range- something that they themselves would like is good. They draw numbers, and then, in order, choose a wrapped gift. After it is opened, the person with the next # gets to choose- , etc, etc.
At each person's turn, they can choose one that has already been opened, or a wrapped present under the tree; EXCEPT- the third person that holds a gift gets to keep it- it cannot be taken from them. If someone takes your gift, you take another one- either wrapped, or previously opened, but you cannot "take back" the one just taken, or take a gift that is 'frozen' by being in possession of the third owner.
Lotsa fun, especially for adults/teens. Younger children might not appreciate it, and should probably have their own separate gifts. Might have them draw names, if there really are a bunch of them.

If you do the name drawing thing, I think you should do it this way:
1. Everyone gets something for eveyone else, but it must be something cheap. Like a dollar-store item or something hand-made, etc.
2. Draw names. Get that one person a really good gift. Spend some money on it.
This way, everyone gets one good gift, but they get to open a bunch of little things too.

It depends on the price set and the age and sex of everyone in the exchange. When we have a gift exchange, we always set a price limit. If I knew the price limit for yours, and the ages and sexes of the participants, I'd be happy to make some suggestions.
We decide on the price limit, write everyone's name on a piece of paper, put them in a box and all draw a name.

I'm getting an Arizona Highways subscription for the office secret Santa this year. The nice thing is it has lots of neat articles and pictures, but is also inexpensive. I imagine for a family, everyone would be able to enjoy it too.
Good luck!

On Thanksgiving day, we put all the adult's names in a hat, everyone draws, and thats who you buy a gift for. If you get yourself or your significant other, you just put it back and draw again. In my family we all buy for all the kids, but if your family is really big, you could include their names too.
