I want to move. I'd prefer a mountainous region, but I'm willing to consider anywhere. Where should I go? Anyone know of a place to rent that's under $500 per month (bills can be extra) and takes dogs? Pick my future!

You have two difficult things to work wit. One is your rent limit, the other dogs. But fitting likely Choices would be Washington State, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Washington has the highest minimum wage in the nation at just over $8 per hour. Oregon is second at $7.95 Both Idaho and Montana have labor shortages and results in high beginning wages. I have heard beginning salary at McDonald's in Butte is $12.

To overcome the dog problem, I suggest one of the larger cities. It has been my finding that you will not be rented to with pets in smaller towns. Seems ironic. I live in a rural area and frequently see rental ads for things like 15 acre ranches for rent with barn etc and fenced. They will go on to say horses allowed and follow that with NO DOGS! Seems strange to me.

Seattle, Butte, Spokane, Portland, Salem and Eugene would be some good choices. Stay away from Coer D'Alene and upper Idaho. Lots of neo nazi groups there and a lot can happen. But mainly you will not be welcomed. Provo Utah is nice too. You compete with Mormons for jobs. If not Mormon, it can be a big bonus when you apply for jobs just by saying, "Working Sundays is fine with me." Mormons there are nice people. You may face some social isolation, but others are available. And actually it's not so much they are Mormons as it is if you are decended from one of the original pioneer families.

I lived in Indiana for a few months. I knew some people there that rented a 2 bedroom apartment in Jasper for $480 a month.
