I do affiliate marketing online. I've been doing it for a year and I'm getting ready to quit my regular job, as I am now making over $10k per month. However, it takes dedicated, persistent work, at least a few thousand of initial working capital, decent organizational skills, and a healthy dose of motivation, but you can make a living at it if you stick with it.

Starting a business requires a lot of work and dedication. You cannot start a business this week and expect to be earning a good profit next week.

Employees tend to have a "job" mindset whereby they worked this week, so they expect to see results this week (i.e. a paycheck this week).

In business, you don't see results like that. Take, for instance, starting a new restaurant. You'll first have to choose a location. The most successful restaurants have their own location, with their own parking lots.

If you wanted to open a restaurant like that, you'd spend a couple of months looking for the right location. Then you'd spend thousands of dollars for an architect to help design the plans with you. Then you'd spend thousands of dollars getting your plans approved by the local authorities.

And then, after all that, you'd be approved to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on hiring a firm to actually build your building. And after that, you'd spend tens of thousands of dollars to install the interior decorations.

And then you'd spend thousands of dollars hiring employees and training them, as well as having them prepare for the grand opening.

And then, after over a year and spending over a half million dollars, you'd be ready to open the doors and start earning your first dollar.

I say this to illustrate my point: businesses take time and money up front to develop. In the longer period of time, this time and money invested up front will pay off.

But businesses take time to develop!

It is not like being an employee where you get instant results, meaning work this week, get paid this week.

Business is not like that.

If you want something easy, with no investment, you could probably make $500 to $1000 per month getting paid by companies to write postings on blogs about their products. That's about the only legitimate way that I know of to earn money online without any investment.

I wish you much business success, if you choose to go that route.

It is interesting that you ask "home based business". That is telling. You most likely will have a lot of "work from home" answers where you really are still trading your time for money. In a business, a true home based business you are the owner not a worker.

With that said, you need to decide what you are trying to accomplish. There are as many opportunities out there as there are grains of sand on a beach. What you need to find is one that ties in closely with a passion that you have. Maybe you have a passion for health/fitness. Lord knows there are a ton of companies out there with products to fit the bill. Maybe you are more of a technilogical type person. There are businesses that deal with software, hardware and other tech. type products. Maybe you have a hobby. Start a website that sells products that relate to that.

At any rate as you can see, the choices are huge. Be careful of businesses that promise you a million bucks in a 2 month period....yada yada garbage. ANY LEGIT business will require work, some investment and effort. Find one with a proven system and do your own due diligence. Chances are if after careful evaluation and investigation you have that "gut" feeling that you like the concept of the business, the products are in demand and the compensation plan is something that will pay you today, you should go with it!

Good Luck in your search and congrats on wanting to take the step of being a business owner rather than a home based "worker" trading time for making money for someone else.

Bill Farley is the wealthy, entrepreneur; who was responsible for making household names of such companies as Fruit of the Loom, Gitano, BVD, Lucchese, to name a few. When asked why he has just launched a Network Marketing business, he responded by saying “I became interested in Network Marketing because I see the industry as having an incredible business model that can give people from all demographics the opportunity to prosper financially and personally. To achieve significant levels of success in most business models, you need a degree of higher education or years of experience or both. In Network Marketing, the major drivers for success are ambition, an excellent work ethic, and getting involved with the right company.”
Keep in mind that while Network Marketing is projected to be the wave of the future and an excellent home business model; choosing a company that has just launched, will be a significant factor in your success potential. Although there are many fine companies with a longstanding customer base; where individuals with stamina and conviction can still do well, consider this metaphor when weighing the new versus established:

If you have ever been one of the first to enter a pecan grove; you know how fast you can fill your bucket with pecans, without even moving from one spot. If you have ever arrived late in the season, you know it takes a lot longer to fill that bucket and you have to crawl all over the grove to find those remaining pecans.

The company that Bill Farley just launched this month, will be like entering the pecan grove on the first day. His product has been endorsed by the world famous Chopra Center and this is the first time they have endorsed a third party product. If you would like to investigate the benefits of this product, what it has to offer our aging population and the home based business opportunity it provides (with very minimal investment) you can go to www.Zriibest.com. Best tip: When choosing a business, check out those involved and be sure they are the quality of people you want to be associated with. Best of luck in you endeavors.

I suggest an internet business is a way to create another income stream because:
1. Require small to zero capital
2. Get started right away
3. Work from home or anywhere in the world as long as there is an internet connection
4. Has unlimited potential to earn money
5. No age requirements

What you need to do is to learn about the internet business as much as possible to discover whether it is for you and what your strategy is. There is free information around.

Good luck.

I believe the best home based business is the one I am currently involved with, which is Melaleuca. I have tried others and none of them has brought as much income as Melaleuca has for me.

The one that allows YOU to fully utilize YOUR unique skillset. There are people who live in bed-and-breakfasts they run. There are people who practice law from their homes. There are people who develop software at home. There is a man in Pennsylvania who runs a mutual fund out of his house. Does it mean that any of these businesses is good for you? Not necessarily...
