I was put on BCP because my period would not become regular. I would bleed all the time. My OBGYN said I should either get on BCP for 3 monthes or have a D and C. I don't think the D and C would have worked because I would occasionally stop bleeding. So, my doctor gave me these new pills called Lybrel. When I first got on them, I pretty much stopped bleeding. I have been on them for going on 3 weeks. I started bleeding again, although it is pretty light and seems to be old blood. It freaked me out at first, but then I looked up info on the pills and everything said that most women experience breakthrough bleeding, especially in the beginning. My question is, has anyone else tried these new BCPs? Did you have breakthrough bleeding? How long did it last?

-Thank you!

I have never done Lybrel but have used other brands of birth control pills in the same fashion that the Lybrel is designed for. As for breakthrough bleeding, yes, that is a common side effect when trying to take the pill to skip periods because the body is trying to adjust to a different way.

I still occasionally have problems with breakthrough bleeding when I'm stressed but when I started out with taking pills to stop my period it took my body 6 months to adjust to taking the pill that way.

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.
