I haven't heard of anyone taking an instigator penalty yet. Anyone know of an instance when a player did this season?

Hey, not that I miss it or anything. Is it unofficially gone though?

This actually occured to me during the last Pens/Caps game (Oct. 20th). Matt Pettinger started the fight with Jordan Staal and wears a visor, where Staalsy doesn't. To Pettinger's credit, it looked like he remembered this and tried to take his own helmet off while they were grappling. Whether it was because of that or Staal, it did come off.

I know it's still in the rulebook, I said "unofficially gone". Key word: unofficially. But thanks.

Didn't know Vinny got an instigator. Or Veilleux. Both fights I saw, so apparently I pay too much to the fight and not the repercussions. Good thing I'm not teaching any children about the game. Lol.

I guess it's just a MIRACLE that Jarkko Ruutu hasn't taken one yet. LOL.

Yeah, it's still around unfortunately because superstars like Lecavalier and Iginla should not have to fight and risk a broken hand after taking cheap shots. They have guys who serve that purpose. Stupid rule is a pet peeve of mine to be sure. Also, guys run around taking these cheap shots because of lack of consequence. Getting rid of the instigator would actually decrease the number of cheap shots I think because there would be a price to pay, tough guys can once again protect the stars.

Happened this week to Veilleux of the Wild in the game against Calgary. 2, 5, 10 and a game.

Yeah, it's still around but sometimes looked over. I saw Doug Murray get nailed with an instigator penalty in the Sharks first game against the Oilers.

I've seen the instigator penalty called a few times this season already. Try watching a game when Sean Avery comes back...he is always getting those penalties....lol.

The instigator penalty is a useless penalty that has been around for 30 years. It serves no purpose other than anger Bob. I believe that if you remove this rule from the books, the number of fights will remain.......roughly constant!

The third man in rule is more of a deterrent than the instigator rule.

The Instigator Rule still exists. Rule # 47.2 NHL Rules

It has been called this year. Check this box score from the Calgary/Minn game on Weds: http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20072008/GS020130.HTM

well the fight your referring to can hardly be called one. Just last Wednesday Lecavalier got kicked out of the game for instigating.

i'm hoping somone drops alfresson. I never minded him as a participant yet after that, somebody needs to do some thing. i desire to confirm Thornton combat somebody simply by fact i do no longer think of might is that lots of a fighter. a annoying guy, yet no longer a fighter. optimistically not greater dives and optimistically yet another one objective interest. in all risk in OT.
