I had never even heard of Che until I clicked on some links provided on Dead Marxist's page. I just dont see the interest. Some thug dead in a jungle why the hype?

The question says rarely recognized that means most people dont know who the hell they are. I can promise you and I have asked a number of people and rarely does anyone know who Che was.

Excellent question! It's amazing how often people at Y!A Politics bring up Che Guevara, despite the fact that he has been dead for years. Wherever he is, I'm sure he's basking in the attention right now.:)

This says a lot about you and the people you know. Che Guevara was one of the most famous communist revolutionaries of the 20th century. Only a grossly uneducated person would question his historical significance. Further, only a grossly uneducated person would be unable to find a colleague or associate who had even heard of Che Guevara. However, DO NOT DISPAIR! Well over 98% of Americans are grossly uneducated! It's not your fault! Our society puts no value on the proper education of its citizens! So, while you may be an ignorant shmuck, you're in pretty good company!

Just because you dont recognize doesnt mean no one does.

We care because we're educated enough to know who they are and what they fought for. Revolutions have to constantly happen unless you want the people to be stripped of all power, so these figures from the past serve as a reminder and a lesson on how to properly or improperly handle a revolution.

This proves once again that eduction in this country has gone to hell.
While out national history is important so is world history.

No wonder I keep seeing questions on here and scratch my head while saying "damn I thought we learned that in the 6th or 7th grade and these guys act like that's a real question"

What are they teaching you in that building anyway.

Just because he's not famous doesn't mean he never made an impact or impression on someone.

I'm sure plenty people said the same thing about some carpenters son from Nazareth.

Generally speaking, there is a demographic that gets satisfaction out of attaching themselves to whatever historical figures are anti-establishment, anti-capitalist, or anti-American. The reasons why are somewhat foggy, but I think it has to do, psychologically, with identifying with a "cause." One of these figures is "Che" Guevara. Leftists seem to regard him as a kind of hero despite his warmongering, violence, and desire to incite "many Vietnams," all things the American liberal supposedly detests. So it's a strange phenomenon, no doubt. But you have my two cents on the matter.

He's glamourized by the left because of his "stick it to the man" persona. As the guy said, "Che's dead. Get over it."
