As a receptionist, I put a lot of people on hold. And I can tell you the reason you are hold for a long time is because the person you need to talk to has left the floor with his entire team, or the manager you have demanded to talk to is up to her neck with 2 other complaint calls, or the system that provides the information you want just crashed for the umpteenth time today.
You think you're frustrated with the long wait? Having someone hanging on my line getting angrier by second while I desperately find a solution is no picnic for me, either!
Whew! It's almost 5:00!

Hell to the Naw!! I hate it and I have a thing when I am on hold I say that if they are not back by the time i say I am not envoge I hang up!! The longest I have been on hold was about 10 minutes and that was when I had an accident and I had to call my insurance company! So I had to hold that long to take care of my business!!1

Yeah: The longest I've been on hold was for 1 1/2 hours by Dell Tech Support when I was calling because of a monitor problem!

I work as a receptionist and I hate doing this to anyone. I usually try to answer the phones within a couple of rings and get them directly to the person they need. If the person is busy I ask them if they want to hold. If they say yes, I place them on hold and the call always comes back to me in about a minute or less. I then proceed to ask them again what they would like to do. I like our system at work, because no customer gets put off.

When I was getting child care assistance from the state.. DSHS I usually was on hold for 1 1/2 hours on average.. longest was 2 hrs and 18 min!! That was every-other month.. thank GOD I don't have to do that anymore!!

Only if they have the horrible hold music! I was put on hold one time with an insurance company for over an hour and a half.

Yeah especially when it is awesome music!!! longest time was when I called for tech support with my HP computer...was on hold for almost 30 min. with the repeated message of..."please stay on the line...Your Call is Very Important To Us....it will be answered in the order received...approximate wait time 1 min." lol it played over and over for 30 min."

I was on to Talktalk ISP for 40 mins 2 days ago and still did'nt get through, i gave up in the end. Tried yesterday and same problem, so now i'm moving over to Sky.

Tech support hold is the MOST aggravating of all!!! I was on hold with one computer company which shall remain nameless for nearly two HOURS!
