I was widowed many years ago when I was very very young..and when I finally got back into the dating thing.. I noticed one thing about men with corvettes which is also why I stopped going out with men who own them and even asked before going out on a date without saying why of course if they owned one.!!! .. they are sharks wearing steel clothes .. serial sexual hopers using the car as bait for women who do not notice enough of whats going on around them to "see" the car is only bait for a man hoping to have sex with young women who do not have enough experience to know they are being preyed upon.
Skip the car, little boy. Grow up and see that owning a vette does not make you a man..just another shark in the ocean of men. Maybe if you rethink what went wrong in your marriage..you might see such things as immarturity do affect relationships that are supposed to be lifelong and not just for a few years until you get tired of someone.
And you mean .. we get the gist. Yes. As a former unmarried female .. I surely do "get it". I just hope all the other women on the planet get it too, sooner than later.

My dad restores Corvettes. The majority of his clients are over 40. I don't think of it as men going through a mid-life crisis...I think of it as the fact that men over 40 can afford to buy themselves nice things. I say reward yourself. There's nothing like a big, American V8.
If your kids aren't in car seats anymore, they can ride in the passenger seat and they'll LOVE it. Some of my best memories are riding shotgun with my dad in his '62 or '67 Corvettes...with no seatbelts. Good times. :)
So what about gas prices? I'd only be concerned if you're looking at this car as a commuter vehicle.
Do what's going to make you happy. It sounds like you deserve it.

WTF? Why are you paying any attention to these people? It's your money, it's your life, it's YOUR car...Listen, did any of these people (friends who say you're going through a midlife crisis) help you out when you needed help? Did any of them pay your rent? Did any of them pitch in to pay child support, utilities, or anything else? Did they line up to buy you groceries and give you gas money? You're 41 years old and shouldn't be asking for people's permission to buy whatever it is that you want to get for yourself. According to what you've said, you've worked hard to get where you are right now. If you can afford it -financially- just DO IT!

You make valid points.
I think you should reward yourself for all you have sacrificed. I really do.
Life is for the living. Your 41....enjoy yourself while you are still young!!!!
Best wishes!!!

Sounds reasonable to me. If you have the bucks and some other vehicle for when you have the kids, do it!
You only live once.
