Once the words are spoken whatever damage they cause, no matter WHAT the other person says, it will forever be irrepairable. The effects of what you said will linger in their conscience forever; just choose your words very, very carefully.

Typically, I think, it's better to mull the situation over in your mind, choose your words, and then have the conversation.

Some things have to be said, I believe, but many times it's how you say them, what words you choose (semantics, right?), and the intent (the TRUE intent) that you have behind what you're saying, or at the very least how you convey it, that has the effect. Some people can tell you you're ugly as sin, and you'll be all the happier, it's just in what they choose to say and how they do it.

I think it would hurt more if you say something and wish you hadn't. I mean, you already said it and it already hurt someone. You should feel guilty that you hurt that person. But then, sometimes it can hurt to not say something that you wish you did if not telling it would hurt someone anyway.
