I don't know why cheerleaders don't wear those pleated skirts anymore, but I do have a couple of them and a nice tennis dress too.

I'm pretty sure that pleats in general went the way of the dodo about ten years ago in general. Since you posted this in tennis, I suppose you might have also realized that a good a number of other types of clothes don't have pleats anymore- most of my dress pants or shorts have pleats. I remember the designer jeans faze (when Jordache was in and so was Vanilla Ice) but straight, classic style is the hip thing right now: Think UnderArmor Ultra Sleek. Maybe you could start the "Pleats as Vintage Movement." Let me know- I'm down to bust out some of my old gear!

Probably because pleats, in most cases, make your hips and your derriere look bigger.
