Country music's current producers are getting away with selling country lyrical ideas on more rock/dance oriented tracks.
It's NOT getting better. It's just getting flavored for the city more and more. Hopefully you'll dicover the classics.
The fact that the CMA awards are going to be held in NYC may mean that more urbanites will get the new country vibe. But the fact that the Lifetime Achievement winners won't be on prime time is a sellout.

The "country"music today is totally different from the country music of the 80's.About 2/3's of todays music is likened to the Pop music of the 60's and 70's.
I am a mainstream country fan and the pure country sounds of the country singers of the 50's-60's-70's are my choice in country.

The, so called, Country Music is getting more "Citified" and has gotten away from it's roots. It is the normal progression in most music. It evolves as the audience demands.
The problem is, most older folks find it abhorrent and equate it with Rock-n-Roll. IMHO, electrical instruments and loud music takes away from the interesting aspects of the genre'.
I will continue to prefer Vernon Dalhart, Jimmie Rodgers, Ernest Tubbs, Little Jimmie Dickens, The Delmore Brothers, and the other Pioneers of the industry.

I think there is a lot more rock and roll influence in today's C&W. Less twang; more meaningful lyrics. Still not my favorite but I can listen to the Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler CD everyday.
And at 38, "break" can take on a whole different meaning.

It's not; country is being made more accessible to a larger audience, and its also being totally wussified to make it more safe, so that the Walmart/suburbs crowd can get into it. Can't have Waylon Jennings or Merle Haggard running amok in those crowds, people might get the idea that breaking the rules and not trusting authority might be a good thing. That's what they don't want you to hear....SHHHHHH!

Call me nostalgic, but i care for the older country artists and their music. When they sang about being thrown out of their trailer by their ole' lady,it really happened to them. And that pain is reflected in their voice. Today's counry is created in the business board room.

I have asked myself this question numerous times. Both. They are stepping up the beat in country music to keep up with today's pop generation.

It's getting worse. I loved the 80's pop/rock, then switched back to country. Now I listen to classic country and classic rock. What they are callin country, ain't country.

It's most certainly NOT getting better. In fact, I don't listen to mainstream country anymore because it's not country. Good luck. 2D
