A voice teacher of mine suggested humming or whistling the tune to Sanford and Son ( 1970's sitcom) will work every time. She told me the lack of true melody line would overwrite the melody you cannot stop going over.

All I know, is that it works every time I need to get a song out of my head. I am sure there are other "non-melody" songs out there that would also work.

You have to finish the song - seriously. There was a science magazine that had the same question, and it said your brain is has to finish the song or the song will stay in your head. Maybe you should be a singer if you are like a radio! Or you should go on that singing bee show and win money

Listen to the radio. The songs you hear there will override the one in your head...hopefully.
