You are wrong. US media calls them terrorists, not rebels.

One can be a rebel and not a terrorist. Terrorists target civilians. For example, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Insurgents in Iraq. These all target civilians. They are terrorists. Terrorism is a method, not a goal.

Rebels are trying to overthrow a government from within the country. Rebellion is a goal and has nothing to do with methods.

One can be both a rebel and a terrorist. For example, the Iraqi insurgents are rebels and terrorists. Or one can be a rebel and not a terrorist. The Continental Army of the United States were rebels against England, but didn't practice terrorism.

I think that since the PKK operates from outside the country, the term "rebel" probably is inappropriate when applied to them. I don't know enough about their methods to know if they are terrorists.
