I have never certified a coin myself but in my numismatic journey I have learned that not all grading companies are created equal. ANACS and PCGS seem to be the most reputable ones.

It also seems to be fairly expensive and sometimes there are discounts if you send coins in bulk.

The 1880-S Morgan dollar is quite common. It has a value of $13.50 in grade very good and going up the scale to almost uncirculated it's value is only $16.75. In low mint state- 60 value is $28 and in MS-64 is $115. it must have no wear and very few marks to make the MS-64 grade. If the coin has wear then it would cost more or close to it, to have it professionally graded and slabbed then it is worth. Just because a coin has been pro graded and slabbed does not actually mean it is worth the price asked. One still must be careful. If you insist on doing it ANACS is about the best bet got there site, www.anacs.com for a submission form. You can deal direct with them and not go through a middle man or have to join them.
