Garfield is the only person in US history to be a Representative, Senator-elect, and President-elect at the same time. To date, he is the only Representative to be directly elected President of the United States.
Garfield was a minister and an elder for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), making him the first—and to date, only—member of the clergy to serve as President.
He stated, "I resign the highest office in the land to become President of the United States." when he left the church.
His only official act was to sign an extradition paper. The process where one state or nation can request the surrender of a criminal from another state.
Just to name a few. But he was only president for 4 months before being killed by Charles Julius Guiteau.

He could also write Latin with one hand and Greek with the other--simultaneously.
It wasn't the bullet from Guiteau that killed him, by the way, but the unsanitary medical practices at the time. Had the doctors left him alone, he probably would have survived his term.
