Does anyone here know a reputable literary agent for unpublished American writers? (Fiction novel)

Check out the current Writer's Market book for a literary agent prone to accept your genre. Not all agents accept all types of fiction or non-fiction. Many of them are very selective.

Prepare a top-notch query letter, follow the agent's submission guidelines exactly, and submit your manuscript. Be prepared for a rejection, but once in a blue moon, an unpublished author will gain representation.

Forget about vanity publishing unless you simply want a bound book of your manuscript to rest upon your coffeetable.

Go to a writers' conference. You can sign up to pitch your manuscript to a live agent who hopefully will bite. Much better than a cold submission.

Why not self publish? here are several sites that will print your book and you could just list it on amazon.com.
