Yes it is real, believe it or not there are several species of snakes that get to be that large. Reticulated pythons can grow to be massive. There is one right now at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio that is 24 feet long and is just over 300lbs.

Yes, that is one of the largest snakes in the world. It is called the reticulated python and they can become quite massive. They are native to tropical areas of Asia. The largest reticulated python caught was about 33 feet long, I think. It was caught in the early 20th century. A lot of captive reticulated pythons in zoos can grow to be well into the upper 20s in terms of length and they can weigh over 250 pounds (I know because I helped move one when I was a volunteer in the herp area of a zoo as a teen, she was massive and HEAVY)

It appears to be real. Remember that things get larger the closer you are to them - so the photo may be taken with a 28mm lens close up, distorting it a bit. I would have checked it out further, but I was a bit distracted by the photo of that cute kitty....
