OK, I really like to jot and jot and try to make stories but I never use a proper system, I never know how to lay the dialog out well or anything. I don't know how to make a great intro, keep it interesting, etc. What are crucial components that make/break a story, and what should I focus on right now? I'm lost. Hope I make sense, heh...

Strong characters make or break your story. All the other elements (dialogue, scene, plot) can come later.
You should thoroughly sketch out your main character(s). Figure out what motivates them, how they speak, how they act (and why they act the way they do). Figure out if your character is going to change or if he is going to be a flat character.
After you do this for two or three characters, you will see similarities or differences for them. This is where you could recognize if the characters might conflict in their motivations or if they would band together because of their like-mindedness.
As you jot down your thoughts, don't be afraid to include a lot of detail. You can always pare it down later - but adding as much as possible helps you see in which direction you would like to go.
I hope that helps! :-)
