I want to subscribe to a newspaper that will give me a thorough grounding in international news and affairs in preparation for applying to the foreign office.

Any suggestions, thoughts or recommendations?

I'm thinking... guardianweekly, le monde diplomatique, the economist, newsweek, time??

Thanks

Herald Tribune, a serious newspaper.

The Economist, always a good one. It describes itself as a newspaper but is of course in magazine format. Otherwise the International Herald Tribune (IHT) although that does have an American bias to it I get the impression. Guardian Weekly is good as well but I thought you could only get that abroad? Time seems to have a perpetual obsession with all things technological and I'm not too sure about that but it's been around for a while and has a reasonable reputation. For Le Monde Diplomatique you need of course to be a French speaker but as you mention it I assume you are? It strikes me as something the elite students at the elitist colleges in Paris that are part of the Sorbonne would read (and just the French elite generally).

Oh, and good luck with your application!!
