It has done been said as soon as she gets out of the hospital that she will be charged with reckless homicide. She was driving under the influence of drugs plus no one had seatbelts on.
(They have medical cards, my cousins funeral was paid for by the church she went too) so tell me can money that the community took up can it be put towards that? (A lawyer)

The money is in a bank in the state in which they live in. They say there are 6 names on the account which makes me think it is for the 6 kids involved in the car crash but then there is the parents that are over them, how can the community then uphold a murderer by letting her use the money for a lawyer?

Unless some sort of agreement was signed at the time the money was received, the money can be used any way the recipient sees fit.

Sorry about your cousin. But how about a LITTLE compassion for your cousin's wife? She isnt a murderer by the way. She wasnt charged with murder. And she hasnt been convicted yet.

As for the money, USUALLY when this kind of fund is set up, there are instructions as to how the money can be used, who the trustee is, and other conditions that may apply. If there are no restrictions on use, the funds may be used as a defense fund. Since the money is probably being donated to offset costs and expenses the family may incur, legal defense is a reasonable use of the funds. Then again, you also have to consider that if the funds were NOT used for attorney fees, other money that would be used for food, clothing, housing etc would be used for attorney's fees and costs. A major part of family expenses in a situation like this IS the defense of criminal charges.

In the long run, the family...your other cousins etc...will be better off if the family does not have to incur these legal fees. You need to look at the big picture.

Money that is donated to a family can be used anyway the family wishes. This includes a lawyer to defend a member of the family. If you wish to limit the use of the money to specific expenses you can pay them directly.

If the money is given to the family as a gift from the community, I suppose they can use it however they wish.

They can use it for whatever they want unless you collected the money saying that it was for a certain purpose, but then used it for something else.

It depends what kind of bank fund it was put into or whether it was given in cash to the family.
