I have several ideas which I feel would benefit several companies either by improving the products they make or new products. Im aware that simply writing the letter 'C' for copyright is good enough for stories etc but what about financial protection for ideas.

Before revealing anything get them to sign a 'Non-Disclosure Agreement' (NDA) ... and at least APPLY for a Patent ..

Even so, there is no guarantee - check out Dyson & his court case against a US Company that tried to rip off his ideas .. same happened with the guy who invented the Workmate .. and (as I recall) the UK Government tried to rip-off the guy who invented Cat's Eyes and even the guys who invented the bottom illuminated 'keep left' street bollards

Tell any 'Big Company' your idea and next thing you know they could be running then off by the thousand out of some factory in China..

You need to patent the idea - a patent protects new inventions and covers how things work, what they do, how they do it, what they are made of and how they are made. It gives the owner the right to prevent others from making, using, importing or selling the invention without permission.

Pattent all you re ideas weather you use them or not & approch them after you 've done it, that way if they run with it you'll be legally protected
