Out of all the movies you have ever watched that is/was based on a true story, which one would you say was the most difficult movie to watch.

I would say the most difficult movie I have ever had to watch is Hotel Rwanda about the Rwandan Genocide because it shows how a ordinary hotel manager name Paul Rusesabagina became the Man Of The Hour and put his job on the line so that men, women, and children could be protected from Harm and Evil.

Schindler's List, most definitely... and, for the record, while I enjoyed the movie, "Last King of Scotland" is NOT a true story. The doctor character never existed.

Another difficult movie (for very different reasons) is "Fire in the Sky," based on the story of a guy who claimed to be kidnapped by aliens. Scary stuff, if you believe in that kind of thing.

Actually, the one I think will take that spot I have not watched yet.. (it's still doing festivals and hasn't come anywhere near me) based on Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door which is a fictional account of a real case of a girl being tortured in a basement... her guardian encouraged her sons and all the neighborhood kids to torture her.. The book is hard to read, I can't imagine it's any easier SEEING it..

But, other than that.. there really aren't any that come to mind.

Lots of great answers to this question. To the growing list I add:
Julia-Lillian Helman's story of a friend who died in the Holocaust
Francis-Bio of Francis Farmer
Both of the above films had me walking out of the theatre thinking "life is sh*t"
Rabbit Proof Fence-Austrailian Films about the forced removal of indiginous children in the 1930 & 40's
Armistaid-The opening scene is horrific, and the story is a chapter of American History that has almost been forgotten.

I agree with Hotel Rwanda. But believe me...when I researched into it...the movie was kiddies stuff compared to the horrors that really happened. I praise the movie for highlighting it...I was gobsmacked and its so hard to believe that the world kept quiet and did not intervene and basically watched from afar. It was scary...and the part where they drove through a road laced with dead bodies...really heart lurching stuff.

I completely agree with Mr. Taco. Hotel Rwanda and Schindler's List are two others I loved but will never watch again.

Roots or The Last King of Scotland. I say "difficult" from the standpoint that it was horrible what the people went through, not from the standpoint that it was a bad movie or anything like that.

Aurore, it's a french movie, about a girl that her dad marrys a another woman, and she's really mean with her, and makes her do all the work, and she doesnt give her food, and locks her up. It's really sad, and really good, plus it's a true story.
