What are the best websites for learning about major existing house re-modeling, because I have a lot of questions, such as...
- How does a person look for and find contractors for major re-construction jobs?
- What is the difference between builders, contractors, sub contractors, laborers?
- Does the property owner shop for and buy materials, and hire a laborer?
- When does a contractor get paid?
- Does the contractor pay the subcontractors or does the property owner pay the subs?

When you search for a general contractor, it is best to work with friends/business associates who have been pleased with the performance of said contractor. Ask around of folks you know if they have any comment concerning contractors.

A 'builder' is generally thought of as one who constructs new homes, and may not get into remodeling. The contractor would qualify as the same, except he DOES do remodels as well as new construction. Subcontractors are those who perform trade work for your project, such as an electrician or plumbing firm.

Payment to contractors varies by their request, but most will want at least a twice a month payment to cover their labor, materials, and subcontractor costs. You do not hire your own labor, except as allowed, perhaps for painting, floor covering, etc. Most contractors will allow certain aspects (subcontracts) for the project to be owner selected and paid.

Whether or not you shop for and buy materials is between you and the contractor. Most, however, prefer to handle this aspect on their own, since, as good customers, they get preferential treatment on deliveries when demanded, etc.

I am currently in the midst of a major renovation of my home, and my contractor has allowed me to do my own appliances, hardwood flooring, ceramic tile and some other issues.

As far as payment goes, I keep asking him when he wants monies, and he tells me he will give me a bill when he wants money :) But then, he's a friend and his wife works for my wife.

it honestly relies upon on how a lot the contractor is conscious, and if ICE ought to generate probable reason that the contractor knew. sometimes, the subcontractor is in simple terms no longer held to blame until eventually it might nicely be shown with probable reason that they were conscious that categorical hiring is prohibited. THEN a prosecutor has to exhibit previous a life like doubt that they knew. those are all constitutional protections afforded to all persons.
