lvgeno- I agree. I lived there for 8 mos and I hated it. I didnt feel safe at all. In a 24 hr period right before Christmas,2 small casinos,a bigger casino,2 liquor stores and a grocery store were robbed. There were alot of instances where the cops were put on administrative leave because they had to open fire on the suspects. At the rate the cops were going on admin. leave, I didnt think there would be any police left.Back in the mob days, there werent alot of cops BUT there was plenty of desert

your_uncle_dodge - Vegas,to me,is lil California. As far as the blood and crips are concerned,I think the mob could handle them.It would be bloody and ugly but I think with the mob's sophisticated tactics the Blood and Crips wouldnt be able to leave Vegas fast enough.

Everything was better. No gangs would ever think of coming to Vegas to start trouble. Seems the law protects criminals rights. The mob has no law to follow. Everyone was treated like royalty as long as they behaved. Misbehave and you had to answer to them. No trial ... just a sentence. Everyone who worked here at that time said it was so much better. They felt safe and were compensated very well for their work. Was a family type business. Scam artists wouldn't even think of trying one of their scams here. They knew if they were caught, they wouldn't not be asked to leave ... they would be escorted to the desert and never seen again.
So ... be good and be safe. Be bad ... and pay the price.

When the mobs ran Vegas, it was a dangerous place if you messed with them. If you were just the visitor and minded your own business then they took your money and you smiled all the while they did.
Vegas has become a huge city, that in itself brings crime. If the mob still ran it, they couldn't control anything that big. Casinos are big business, ran by publicly traded companies(in some cases) Some are still privately owned.
I haven't lived in Vegas, but I visit quite often. I was there a couple of weeks ago and have never felt safer. There were private security and Police all over. It's nice to see that they are getting the guys that slap porn and prostitution fliers in your hands under control. Only ran into one the entire time, and he only approached if you went to him.
I wish they'd get a handle on the "time share" sales on the street. I really got annoyed when they would block us and then kept following us saying we are missing a good deal.
Vegas is Vegas, it's as safe as you make it. You have to watch out for yourself, where ever you go.

Vegas is becoming unsafe since the Cali riffraff are moving in. The mob would have their hands full trying to stop both the bloods and crips.
For Bobby B's information: MGM sold Primm to the group that owns the Terrible Herbst gas stations and casinos.

People who worked in the casino industry were treated much better, now they're just numbers. After she left NY and moved to Vegas, my mother worked in various casinos like The Sands from 1969-2003 so I know from all the stories she's told me. She was around mob guys all the time.

when the mob ran vegas it was a small town, easy to manage. Since 1989 the population has doubled, vegas has got huge, no way the mob could handle a city of vegas' size today.
Bobby b or whatever your name is check your facts, MGM are not mob owned, they are one of the corporate giants who eventually ousted the mob from vegas like it shows in the movie casino. btw golden nugget is owned by Landry's Restaurants not MGM

For your information, the mob still runs Las Vegas. They now have a corporate name.
Do you know the same company owns The Mirage (MGM Mirage), Treasure Island, New York New York, Bellagio, The MGM Grand, The Golden Nugget and all three hotels at the Nevada State Line (Whiskey Pete's, Buffalo Bill's and Primm Valley).
If that's not a mob, then I don't know what a mob is.
