Even though this poster told me never to answer his questions, since this is a public forum I am going to answer this: Yes, most women know when they are ovulating. There is a pressure and acute pain in the ovary involved. Its called mittleschmertz. Look it up. I'm not sure it is empowering, but it could be. I always knew when I was ovulatiing.

Yes, I can feel the hormonal changes in my body. I knew I was pregnant after about 12hrs for my first, 2 days for the second, and 1 day for the third.
No I do not feel empowered. LOL @ mutterhal. Relief yes, because of the bloating, cramping and pressure release.
Just after I got spayed I could actually feel pain in my tubes during ovulation and I went to my doctor. He said that some women feel the blockage for a few months as the egg tries to travel down the fallopian tubes and cannot pass. Wicked cramps. Almost as bad as PMS cramps.

Not me personally. But maybe some do on a deeper level...seriously. Women have the ability to create and carry a life inside them (because of ovulation). It's something men could never do. Therefore they feel empowered because it may be the one thing they can do better than their husband.

Wrong. so wrong. I always know when I'm ovulating. 1) you can physically feel it, just like you can physically feel it in your guts when you're about to get your period. It's sort of a heavy pressure, kind of as if there were rocks in there. 2) It definitely changes my mood. Not only do I feel more sexual, I also feel generally happier, relaxed, and more energetic. I'm surprised no one else said they noticed a change in mood for the better. I assumed that was more common than it apparently is.

Actually 1/3 of women can feel they are having their period (myself being one of them). Of course most women can feel the cramps and bloating that go along with a period as well. However ovulation and a period are 2 completely different things that typically happen about 2 weeks apart.
But I agree with Jamie. In some aspects its bothersome and a nuisance, but I feel it is a blessing in other aspects because it allows women to play their huge role in creating life.

I always know when I am ovulating and no, I do not feel empowered either way, but if I am going to have any monthly symtoms at all, it will happen while I am laying eggs rather than when I am having my period. Why? I do not know, but I am cleared medically from anything abnormal. Personally, having all of this operating internally is fastinating to me and only reminds me monthly how amazing our bodies are and how gifted we are (in this country, at least) to choose to bear children or not and to not have to hide because we do what we do and are who we are. I love being a girl and I celebrate being a woman.

Eh, what? I've never heard of this idea, but I do believe a woman's emotions are sometimes tied to her cycle.
As for feeling "empowered" that comes about when I've done something to empower myself. I don't just randomly feel empowered.

I'm in my late 40s now so I don't believe I can even do that anymore. The strange thing is that I don't even care. I keep hearing stories about how women feel depressed when they are going through menopause because they realize they will no longer be able to have children. I'm actually looking forward to no longer having periods. There are no health benefits to getting them and besides, I had my children years ago so there no reason for me to be still functioning.

I feel terrible when I ovulate. What do I need ovaries for, anyway?
