they mainy occur on the winter and it's possible for a blizzard to occur in any location where snow falls.

In North America, blizzards are particularly common to the Northeastern quadrant of the United States, Maritime Canada and Canadian priarie provinces. In this region of the world, it is not uncommon to experience two or even more blizzards during a winter.

Blizzard conditions also occur frequently in the mountain ranges in western North America, however due to these regions being sparsely populated they are not heavily reported.

Blizzards mainly occur in the mountains, such as the Rockies or the Sierra Nevadas or out on the plains.
As to why, it is because a great deal of moisure is required (upsloping winds in the mountains bringing in moisture, then dropping it as elevation pushes the storm upwards); out on the plains (Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Montana, the Dakotas, et al) moisture from the 4 corners region or the Gulf of Mexico mixes with colder air, usually from the northwest, producing a blizzard.
For those who don't believe in global warming, blizzards used to be an every winter experience in the Midwest, often bringing a new blizzard every week to 2 or 3 weeks!

Why Do Blizzards Occur

They occur at your local Dairy Queen, lol. And why is because they are sooo good!

Ok...on a more serious note....I have no idea...I guess you'll see them more often the further you get away from the equator and closer to the tips of the earth because it's colder. All a blizzard is...is like a nasty thunderstorm but instead of rain, it's snow.

Mostly in the Northwest, but the worst blizzards relative to lives affected are on the East Coast.

Actually I am experiencing a some what mild winter in Colorado. I've lived here for over fifty years and the winters are noticeably milder than they were when I was a little boy. Temperatures used to get below 0 degrees and stay there for a week or more. I suspect that some day in the near future we won't get any snow here except in the mountains.

in the northwest because of the arctic wind and sea air channels, plus the higher altitudes trap moisture and the air freezes it to cause snow
