There's a lot of talk this year about uniforms. I was thinking, "Who am I, to say that a uniform is ugly or not." I am not an advertising/marketing major, and I really am not a fashion expert (haven't been to a mall in about 3 years, but have been to the hardware store 3 times this week). No, I'm not a lesbian, just bought a old house. On to the question:

Why do hockey fans become so fashion opinionated when it comes to the new uniforms?

It's either you like it or you don't. It's all personal opinion, nothing that has to do with being an advertising or marketing major. My professional background is criminal law, but I hate the Canucks and Sabres jersey because it offends my eyes. Personal opinion and I'm not judging that based on the Criminal Code.

Because fans are a sucker for a new item. The NHL marketing gurus know this. So, for the last few years, the NHL has been implementing uniform design changes at an alarming rate knowing that there are fans who will part with their money for the all important new item.

As for the jerseys, aside from the 'water' issue, the players have said they like the fit, and the comfort level. Personally, I don't notice the difference in fit between the two uniforms all that much (Chara looks like he'll burst through his any minute though) and it doesn't take away from the game for me.

As for a hockey fashion expert - there's Hockey's Sharp Dressed Man, Mr. Donald S. Cherry!

Same time that NBA players became Rap Stars... and to answer your second question... hockey fans didn't become fashion experts... they remained hockey fans and moaned about the uniforms morphing away from traditional sweaters that have been worn for decades.

The majority of the new uniforms were designed to attract NEW fans to the game (MTV sells!), but what hockey executives fail to realize is that it's the old fans that are the backbone of the league.

because hockey jerseys are the best of all major league sports... great athletic feeling fabric, large crested logos and flashy colors...

so we'd hate to see some non-hockey fan commish, a fabric nerd and some crackhead designer come screw around with something that was fine for the past 40-50 years...

I collect hockey jerseys and have over 100 NHL replicas jerseys... I DO NOT HAVE and WILL NOT buy any of these mutated Reebok-tops... (unless I see them for $30 or less when they try to get rid of these after they decide to go back to the old styles)

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see whats ugly and whats not...

RE: Andrew G
you nailed the pin on the donkey... I'd hate to be a Canucks or Stars fan right now...

RE: Like I'm Telling You
lol... Cherry... nice...!!!

There's a few reasons why

1. Because it's a change, and people usually don't like change. So any change will cause a debate.

2. Because a lot of the people complaining aren't real fans. They just watch every now and then, saw that the jerseys are changing and started complaining.

3. Because some of the team logos have changed big time and some home-town fans are a bit ticked/excited

4. Because they have nothing better to do

You don't need to be a fashion expert to see that the link below has an ugly uniform. Perhaps the ugliest uniform in sports history, not just hockey:

Fashion is a personal issue formed by what a person sees and likes or doesn't like. I like some jerseys and others are horrible...Buffalo...Vancouver, etc. The Kings have had horrible jerseys but now they kick BUTT in jersey design and are now kicking but on the ice too...but probably not for long!

Well. I have a degree in fashion design. I play ice hockey. So I think I have a bit of expertise here.

because we watch. we pay to see it. i dont want to watch these hockey players in these new clown uniforms with 12 different colors with lines going every which way on the uniforms. thats why the original 6 teams jerseys look the best because they have the least amount of 'flare'

because we want our team to have good looking jerseys. & as for other teams, its fun to bash on them. come on wouldn't you agree?

& besides we're multi-talented like that. we're fashion police & hockey fans. see its a good 2 in 1 deal. lol
