I'm not convinced you do. Here in Southern California, you may feel cooler if you're standing because the ocean water is usually much cooler than the land and there will be a cool breeze. If you're actually lying on the sand, though, you don't usually feel cool at all, because the sand gets quite hot.

In most places the ocean is colder and the land temperature is warmer. This creates a sea breeze and this breeze prevents the temperature from riding less than the temperatures of inland areas.

the sand is cooler than the air so that makes you feel cooler and plus the breeze off of the ocean

The humidity level often has a lot to do with how we "feel" heat. I would must rather suffer 100 degrees in AZ. that 100 degrees in the Ohio Valley in Ky.

there is usually a breeze off the water, which evaporates the sweat from your body. this is how human's control their body temp...by sweating. wet the back of your hand and blow on it. it will feel cool!
