California had a decent Governor that took the lead and they are meant to be the first responders. Katrina had a poor Mayor and poor Governor and they refused help till it was too late and then tried to put the blame on Bush. She got voted out of office as the result. You can fool half the people half the time but you can't fool all the people all the time as they say.

When President Bush declared Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama "Federal Disaster Areas", because of the damage Hurricane Katrina had done to the failing levies and to New Orleans, which sits mostly BELOW sea-level, it was at that point FEMA takes over, not before. No one in Congress has the authority to call out FEMA, except the President or whoever his or her successor is, in case of incapacitation.

Until the President declares an area a "Federal Disaster Area", the states involved must fend for themselves.

The circumstances between Southern California and the Gulf states after Katrina are quite different. For one thing, this is not the first fire California has had, their disaster preparedness is pretty high, dealing not only with fires, but mudslides, earthquakes, gangwars, etc; however, Katrina caused the first significant levy failure ever experienced in the US, and there are STILL homes which are underwater in parts of LA, after two years (and BTW, the FEMA trailers are being taken BACK this winter, the people who STILL have no homes to go to in N.O. are gonna be homeless people now (can the recent election be why they moved so many Democrats out of Louisiana?).

The biggest difference is the residents in New Orleans were poor and without clout. Not so the people of Southern Ca.

I forget how long was it before Bush came to N.O.. 3 to 5 days if not longer ? Anyone would've been called out on that.

I don't understand why some Conservatives take it so personally when someone criticizes Bush. Has right wing media influenced Conservatives so much that Bush is now mistake free and all Liberals are wrong on everything ? What happened to the rational thinking Conservative ?
Did you ever wonder why the far right corporate media protects Bush so much on everything ?

1) Learn to spell and proper grammar. It's hard to understand your point when you use poor grammar and punctuation.

2) I don't know anyone who doesn't want Bush to survey the damage in California and show concern about the victims (well, I'd rather he not pretend to care about the victims. If he doesn't care, he shouldn't pretend he does.). I'd wonder why he took so long, but I'm guessing it's pretty dangerous there right now.

3) Bush doesn't care about poor and middle-class people, white, black, brown, yellow, red, or purple.

4) How come no matter what a Democrat does, Conservatives find fault with it? If a Democrat were president, you'd be slamming him/her mercilessly, wouldn't you?

In the eyes of some, President Bush can do nothing right. In the eyes of others, he can do no wrong.

But there is no way people can blame him for anything in California. The Governor and Mayor and all the Representatives had it together as well.

Katrina was the death knell to the political career of the Democrat governor, who fidgeted and wriggled, but couldn't make a decision during that event. She's one woman who will never be president, that's for sure.

Nothing Bush does will ever be good enough to some people.

Um, Bush did go to Cali.

So what was your point again?

Let me ask you this... do you have a friend or at least know that guy that keeps screwing everything he touches up. Now if you have something important to do.. would YOU want him there? and if he did show up... would you rely on him to actually do the important stuff?

Not that I care if Bush goes to visit or not.. I'm just saying.. there's nothing wrong with the logic.. it means people have learned from the past.

Do some research on FEMA....and then you can come back and sit at the grown-up's table......off you go.
