Only in regard to marijuana. I know there are cut-off levels on the tests and let's say you barely were above the level and failed. Do most companies automatically refuse to hire or will they discuss with you first and see what's going on. It would make sense that its an automatic non-hire, but if they really want someone I thought they may have a level of flexibility. These days marijuana is not considered a big deal, so I'm thinking things are getting relaxed.

if they drug test, they probably dont hire people who fail. I guess if you are highly qualified and the nature of the job allowed it, they could make an exception, but you'd have to take periodic tests probably. In some industries drug tests are mandated and some companies just do it to CTA(cover their a sses). A friend of mine failed a pre-employment test and the told him to come back when he was clean, he never went back. What society thinks is a big deal and what laws and regulations say is a big deal are different.

In my profession drugs used to be almost hand in hand with the job. With OSHA and all the gooberment workplace organizations that are pushing job safety it is a thing of the past. Most companies will not hire you at all because you are considered a liability rather than an asset. You may find one or two who can/will look past it but it's easier just to pass the test. Remember you've had a lifetime to study for it!!!

Most pre employment drug test, are pass/fail drug test.

They have no way of knowing the actual level of the drugs in your system.

Other than there is enough for a positive reading.

I can't think of any company that would hire anyone who failed a drug test, why give the drug test then ?

If they're bothering to test for marijuana, then they care. They don't look at levels. It's positive or negative, period. If you can't even show up clean to your one and only test, then you are probably not who this company is looking for...

Even the local supermarket won't hire you as a stock boy if you fail the drug screen.

MOST COMPANIES DO A SCREENING TO TEST FOR CERTAIN DRUGS.
SOME DO IT BECAUSE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REQUIRES IT IF YOU HAVE ANY FEDERAL CONTRACTS.
SOME DO IT TO SCREEN THE WORK FORCE.
FLEXIBILITY IS JUST THAT FLEXIBLE TO HIRE OR NOT TOO.
IN YOUR CASE HIT THE ROAD JACK AND DON'T YA COME BACK NO MORE.

Why do you think they give you the test? It is a go-no go test. What did you think, they give you a test so that they know which employees to keep a better eye on?

if you question the outcome of the test..the majority of employers will do a second screen to make sure there were no errors made..
