I have a 19 year old male friend who is a senior in high school and was dating a freshman girl who was 14 when her parents found out they freaked out and pressed charges of indecency with a minor. Now he has a court date on teh 8th of November and he is wondering how long he can get or if he can get off with parole since it is his first time to ever be in jail??? Oh and it is in Arkansas.

It depends on what they did. Intercourse would be the worst except if you add to it her getting pregnant. Fourteen year olds cannot consent to sex. However, contrary to what someone else might say, it is much worse to rape a 3 year old at 19 then having sex with a 14 year old which is stat rape. I suspect that he will get some form of probation. In California, if it is a misdemeanor it is not even a registrable offense.

Hate to tell you, but he's f**ked. He'll be convicted of taking indecent liberties with a minor and he will be considered a sex offender. He will have to register with the state and have that label for the rest of his life. I am 110% behind the registered sex offender laws, but they don't differentiate between a 19 year old messing with a 14 year old and a 19 year old messing with a 3 year old and they should. Not every sex offender is a child molesting pervert. People like your friend are the ones that get caught in the middle and essentially have their lives ruined by being labeled a sex offender. The girl's parents have ruined your friend's life.

Hard to say. Sexual indecency with a child is a Class D felony. For a Class D felony, the sentence shall not exceed six (6) years.

It is interesting that the age of sexual consent is 14, however sexual indecency is with anyone under 15.

Hope he enjoyed it cause he's hosed. Could get up to 30 years and the scarlet letter S for sex offender. Oh yeah, he will be real popular with the guys in prison. He might want to get a tub of vasoline and a baseball bat and start "getting loose."

the real thing to worry about is whether he will have to register as a sexual predator. if convicted he may have to. that is a stigma that can stick with someone for a really long time.
