The active site. This is a "pocket" in a very large protein molecule, which has a size and shape that accomodates the substrate. It also has room and functional groups to bind cofactors like NAD+/NADH if they are needed for oxidation-reduction reactions. Still other functional groups bind the substrate in such a way that the substrate is "stretched" to resemble the transition state geometry of the reaction.
