I don't think Nuclear Weapons are necessary for anybody, to include the USA.
Problem is there is now way to neutralize the radiation and until any body's able to do that there is no control over the substance. As it is it's like having control of one end of a Dragon, which to my mind is no control at all, throw in the, "human factors", whether weapon or powerplant truly frightening situation, (was in a nuclrar gun squad in the
army long time ago)

I don't think "necessary" is the way to look at it. (No disrespect intended.)
It seems the World feels that there is a "Nuclear Club", or something. I don't get it.
These Countries are in it to win. They don't care what other people think.
You can debate it until you're blue in the face. Nations and Leaders will do what they think they need to to do.
It's about survival.
Some will.

no - they don't need to worry about those at this time
they'd be better off concentrating on reducing their greenhouse emissions and also to find ways of reducing their ridiculously large population...........
it is in these ways that India presents the biggest danger to the future of the planet
