I believe life begins when the fetus is born alive and breathing on it's own.

I think life begins at fertilization and my religion says that abortion is wrong. However, I know many people who are supposed to be a part of my religion and they have had abortions. I think to myself would I want my parents to get rid of me and not even give me a chance to live? But on the other hand, some people have special circumstances where they think it is best for them to do so.

There are two components about this.

1. No holy book says anything definitive on abortion. Church LEADERS (who are mostly male) usually tell us that it is wrong, but they have also said that being left handed and having a mole means you're a witch.

2. Life begins before conception. Sperm and egg are alive, are they not? How is this the issue?? My eyebrow hairs are biologically ALIVE, this does not grant them a right to life, or imply that it's wrong to pluck them. The mere posession of life does not in any way grant one a RIGHT to life, or else everyone would be vegetarian.

A fetus is a living, breathing thing. Yes, some religions, probably even most, teach that abortion is wrong. But I think for most people it is a personal belief rather than a religious one. In my opinion, abortion is wrong. My religion teaches this but it is also a personal belief based on facts.

Why do you care what our religions say? Isn't it more important what YOUR religion (if you have one), says? Not to mention the fact that many people's views on abortion have absolutely nothing to do with religion. There are plenty of pro-life atheists and pro-choice Christians (though the Christian tradition says that life begins at conception). Are you just trying to stir up trouble - because you will.

I think that the sperm is alive and the egg is alive so how can the fetus not be... life starts way before fertilization!

My religion has nothing to do with how I feel. In my opinion abortion is killing a living person. That is just my personal belief.

life begins at conception
my religions says 'if it harms none, do as you will' but yet most wiccans are pro-choice which i don't understand because isn't aborting your child 'harming' it? I would think so.
I, personally, don't want to get in the way of other people's choices and I think that's the common stance is you don't want to hinder anyone's free will by preventing it, but you don't want the child to be harmed either, so no one wins.

I don't practice any religion.

wrong section.
there is a religion & spirituality section, ya know.

btw, sperm & egg cells are alive before fertilization, so how could fertilization be the 'beginning' of life??
