My 3 year old sisters name is Destiny Ariyah Janelle Collier.
I am 23 weeks and it's a girl, I would like to name my daughter Ariyah Lee Aguirre. My husband is hispanic and i'm biracial so I am open to look at diffirent names but I think this one sounds ok. Is it wrong to take my 3 year old sisters name?? It is only her MIDDLE name. Some people say thats Destiny's name, there can only be ONE destiny, and i'm like well my babys name will not be destiny it will be Ariyah!!

What do you think is this wrong? Should I chose a diffirent name??

My mom thinks it's fine, the "there can only be one destiny" comments came from my 2 "best friends" I agree with alot of the people below it's my baby and i can name her what i want to. I don't care what my friends say. BTW one friend is currently pregnant and wants to name her baby Star because she loves stars and has a star tattoo on her stomach. Their opinion doesn't weigh in much with me anymore as far as baby names go!! Thanks for all the great answers

It is your child. My boys have their dads first name as their midde name. One has his middle name. My daughter has my middle name. If the new baby turns out to be a girl ( not likely due to 2 scans ) It will have my sisters middle name as her middle name. My sister thinks it will be awesome and an honour. It is really up to you .

Families do often share names, especially and aunt & niece, etc. And since its her middle name, i think it is fine. But you might ask your mom or dad, to see how they feel about it. That is a pretty name, by the way.

It's your baby and you can name her whatever you like. My daughter's name is Caina Elise & my brother's daughter's name is Jeanne' Elise. We both named our daughters in honor of our grandfather. None of us have a problem with two Elises in our family. And, at times when we scold the girls we use the middle name "Elise" for effect. Still, it's no harm. Good luck and congratulations on your new bundle of joy. Name her what you like. 2D

Actually it is very common to name a child after a name in your family,my daughters middle name is going to rene which is her aunts name.I think it will be okay and your sister may actually feel special because you are naming your child after her:)

No it's not wrong, most people like having someone named after them. Besides you aren't using your sister's full name just her middle name.

i dont see a problem with it. I gave my daughter my sisters middle name as her middle name. I named her after my sister because we are very close and I like her middle name. it didnt bother my sister any.

Well, since she is only 3 she wont know much difference, She may actually feel honored when she is older that her big sis named her baby after her. Did you ask your mom?

Unless you're naming the baby after your sister (because you love and admire her), then you probably should pick a different name.
We all want to be individuals.
If other family members have already said you're "stealing" the name, I'm sure it'll get mentioned many times over the life of your sister and your child.
Move on - with a different name.
