One that keeps me glued to it with anticipation of what is going to happen next. One's that can make me cry. That's rare. One's that are thrilling and gets me all riled up. :)

I'm the odd man out here. A good book for me is one that uses language artistically and has emotional depth or rich sesory descriptions. I like a lot of literary allusions and unusual words. I like complex characters I relate to, and stories that disturb me or stick in my head. A fast moving plot I could take or leave; it certainly is not the hallmark of a good book, though some good books are page-turners. Also, I think any kind of "moral" is irrelevant to literature and only acceptable if it does not interfere with the book's artistic merit.

OK well this seems shallow but if I'm not going to the library to get a specific one that was usually recommend on here , if I'm just browsing it has a lot to do with the cover (omg) i just realized i do judge books by there cover lol,,,OK seriously it has to catch my attention the first chapter the first 3 are hard for me to get through unless it's really good,,, i have to love the character and understand them almost become them (unless he's a serial killer or something bad) and il love the scary ones no Stephen king only dean Koontz and i think we all like shorter chapters i hate those 38 page chapter 2,,it just annoys me and then of course the surprises you never expected you get when least expected,,, i just finished "odd Thomas" dean Koontz now I'm on "brother Thomas"

One that is exciting, funny, fascinating, and dramatic. The characters have to be interesting and the plot has to move along at a good pace. I like stories with good endings [it doesn't have to be happy, it just has to end the story without you going 'what! that's how it ends! that's awful, I am never reading one of those books again.']. Adventure stories with a little bit of chaste romance are normally good. I don't like books that have the male characters doing everything and the female characters doing nothing and just standing there, waiting to be rescued.

Exciting, and worded in a way that is simple enough to understand, but written in a way to create excitement.

I hate books that are worded too poetically, or put undue detail in a simple action, just to sound deep.

So, the only books I have ever read are the Harry Potter books.

One that's non-fiction, and has a lot of useful information. I shouldn't want to put it down after 4 pages. If I'm going to take the time to read a book, I better learn something out of it.

A book that is believable, even if its fantasy - the characters seem alive and the descriptions are beautiful and/or realistic

One that I can't put down becuase its so damn interesting!

Or when I do put it down I keep thinking about it and cant wait to get back to immerse myself into the book's "world"

i am a big fan of fantasy stories, from the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, to the Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, and from the Midkemia books by Raymond Feist to the Pern books by Anne McCaffrey. (i read ALOT). Anything that will take my mind away from the problems at home and secondary school will suit me just fine.

One that's full of suspense and I just can't stop reading. One that has characters who you just fall in love with and feel as if your put into their shoes, or your with them throughout the story. One that's descriptive but doesn't go into pointless details. And above all books that take surprising twists that you would have nver suspected, but the twist made the story better.

One that teaches me new things. That intrigues me. One that I want to keep reading and when it ends I am disappointed because I want to keep reading and find out what else happened to the characters. The one that makes me wish I knew the characters and they were my friends. One that has a moral lesson and where there are consequences for our actions, good or bad. The one that makes me learn the authors name and search for his/her next and previous book. That I want to read everything written by them.
