If he can sit long enough, go for it. It will teach strategy and rules. Also the importance of paying attention. These things will help out more when learned earlier in life.

If your child is interested in chess I'd say there are no Cons, Except maybe being a "nerd" but who cares. If i have children i'm going to get them into chess.
I'd say the pros are if you know enough you can bring him up to be a Master, and he gets to enjoy the wondrous world of chess for a living, instead of blockbuster or super target -.-

Pro - If the child is intrigued by the activity, you'll create a memory that will last a lifetime and a love that will shape the child outlook on life and ability to handle life's obstacles.
Con - If the child is pushed into activity the kid hates, deep resentment.
Pretty much like everything else! Proceed at the child's pace.

Pros - quality time with a parent. A great game is passed on to another generation.
Cons - unless the child is a genius the greater portion of the game will be lost on them. Probably the best you can hope for is that the child remembers how the pieces move.

My dad taught me to play chess when I was around 6 or 7, and I was glad he did. Im sure I wasnt very good at it then, but I was by the time I was older! It is a good game to get kids thinking.

Pros : can develop his thinking ability.
Cons : he might be bored easily, play just because YOU want him to play..
Ask him if he prefer playing chess, or playing, say, with lego..

they can learn a lot of lifes lessons early on. They can learn to plan ahead, pay attention to detail, plus this game will make their brain stronger. Also if they get hooked to this game they can make some money later on, maybe even get a scholorship.
