As we all know, there are all sorts of experts with various levels of expertise. However, at what point can a person be considered an expert at a particular subject? After all, it IS possible to know a great deal about a particular subject without being considered an expert.

I think the difference is between knowing and experiencing.
One can know all there is to know about say surgery, but if one has not performed many many surgeries, one certainly cannot be called an expert.
